In 2018 we have changed from Lismore Opera Festival to Blackwater Valley Opera Festival. The core of the festival will remain opera at Lismore Castle. However, in 2018 we have an expanded recital programme and really wanted the name to reflect this. In 2018 we have performances in Lismore and throughout the historic and beautiful Blackwater Valley.
A very special performance at Villierstown Chuch:
Our picks for the 2018 programme are the Opera Chorus at Villierstown on Thursday, May 31st at 3 pm (buy your tickets here) Dip your toe into opera, and enjoy an hour of duets, arias, and ensembles from the Blackwater Valley Opera Chorus. Villierstown Church will host this incredible event on Thursday, May 31st at 3 pm. Tickets are just €20, and there’s afternoon tea afterward from Tory’s Cakes and Bakes to conclude the day. If you aren’t attending L’Italiana in Algeri you can get into the operatic spirit with this lively, engaging and hugely enjoyable concert.
Friday Double Bill:
The Masterpiece Series (buy your tickets here) gives you a first look at future famous names, by showcasing the best in new musical voices of the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, with a double bill at the romantic Dromore Yard on Friday, May 1st. Kicking off with the winners of the Irish Heritage Bursary Awards at noon. Pianist Adam Heron will play pieces by Chopin and Scriabin. Maria McNamee’s harp programme includes Marcel Grandjany’s Fantasy on a theme of Haydn. Soprano Rebecca Murphy’s wonderful programme features pieces by Mendelssohn, Duparc, and Samuel Barber, linked by texts that have been set by Irish poets. The afternoon’s event showcases Guests from the Garsington and Nevill Holt Operas. You’ll listen to Soprano Alison Rose from Garsington, and Baritone Tristan Hambleton from Nevill Holt, accompanied by acclaimed pianist, Simon Lepper. (Buy your tickets here).
