This New Zealand quality wine has classic Marlborough aromas of citrus and limes with elderflower and grapefruit notes. The palate is concentrated with lemon zest, stonefruit and floral flavours filling the mouth. The wine finishes crisp, clean and dry. Perfect as an aperitif or with seafood, chicken, Asian dishes and salads.
202 WHITE - DOMAINE VERGER CHABLIS - €30
A French wine with demure notions of yellow apple and citrus blossoms tease the nose; then on the palate it's minerality galore with green and yellow apple fruit chiseled from a wall of marine rocks and shells. Lip-smacking, precise, citrus-y finish. Pair with lake fish or shellfish.
203 RED - J&B 61 RESERVE CLARET - €25
"Our 61 Reserve Claret is produced for us by father and son team, Paul and Cédric Valade. The French family has been farming this 30 hectare estate in the Cote de Castillon since 1878. Their philosophy is simple: hard work and lots of it. Cédric’s is passionate about his soils and creating the best conditions for viticulture. Healthy soils equals healthy vines and gives the best chance to harvest ripe and healthy fruit. The assemblage is predominantly Merlot with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon, producing a wine with lots of up-front fruit, Bordeaux character and juicy, fruit-coated tannins. It is a wine to drink and enjoy young, but has all the structure and class to age and develop for 5-8 years."
204 RED - CHAKANA ESTATE MALBEC - €25
The wine matured in used 225-liter French oak barrels and cement vats. The nose is ripe and fruit-driven, with aromas of dark cherries and plums plus a subdued minerality and a touch of spices. Most noticeable is the really well-integrated oak (only founder and well-seasoned barrels are used for this wine). The palate is juicy, fresh and has good balance with a somewhat bittersweet finish that is attractive and commercial. This is a great expression of fresh and elegant Malbec from Altamira in Argentina.
205 RED - RAYOS UVA RIOJA - €30
No oak, juicy and fresh, lovely core of sweet fruit, notes of earth and leather, superb. Outstanding un-oaked Rioja, freshness abounds in a swirl of mouth coating pure Tempranillo fruit. A beautiful example of how to capture the pure fruit potential of this noble Spanish variety that is so often covered with american oak and sweet vanilla nonsense. Olivier is a master of expressing ‘terroir’ and varietal character rather than wine making. Like many other biodynamic pioneers, he allows the wine to make itself and the results reveal the potential of Tempranillo and the hot Rioja region to still produce wines of exceptional freshness and vitality. Laden with young red and black cherry and plum, a slight note of fig, slightly earthy beneath, but fresh, fresh, fresh, lovely wine.
206 ROSE - MARIANA ROSE - €25
A Portuguese Wine that is clean and dry, with aromas of peach and cream. Soft texture that glides nicely in the mouth. Herdade do Rocim has become one of the premier wine & olive oil growing estates in all of Portugal. They are currently in the process of organic conversion.
207 SPARKLING - VALDO ROSE PROSECCO - €35
Valdo Marca Oro Rosé Brut from Italy is a dramatic sunset with plentiful beautiful bubbles in the glass, a purple-red in colour with shades of pink. On the nose reveals delicate aromas of strawberry crème, raspberry, delicate yeast, biscotti and floral notes. On the palate flavours of dry strawberry, pomegranate, vanilla crème, citrus spritz with mouth-filling, tiny, foamy bubbles. The medium dry wine shows a nice, round, warm taste with tempting fruit nuances and slate on the finish. Big and impressive.
208 SPARKLING - DRAPPIER CARTE D’OR NV - €55
The Carte d’Or cuvée is the very expression of the Drappier style. With its very high proportion of Pinot Noir, one is almost tasting a Blanc de Noirs. Champagne with a fine aromatic richness, it opens with aromas of stoned fruits such as white vineyard peach. A spicy hint announces a powerful and complex palate. A vinous Champagne of lovely complexity with a characteristic note of quince jelly.
