Concerts 2022 – Ireland’s Summer Opera Festival

We are delighted to present our series of unmissable concerts for 2022 in Dromore Yard, Co Waterford. Our 2022 Concerts Programme will feature Maurice Steger and Friends: with Daniele Caminiti and Mauro Valli; the phenomenally talented pianist Giovanni Bellucci; and the Irish Baroque Orchestra, conducted under the artistic direction of Peter Whelan, and accompanied by special guests, Nuria Rial and Juan Sancho.

Maurice Steger & Friends: Music for the Opera Intermissions - Thursday 2nd June

Three exceptionally talented, world-class musicians; Maurice Steger, Daniele Caminiti, and Mauro Valli will come together in concert for the very first time at Dromore Yard.

Celebrated as “the world’s leading recorder virtuoso”, Maurice Steger is also a remarkable stage presence. 

Multi-award-winning classical guitarist and lutenist Daniele Caminiti is dedicated to the study of Early music, while international award-winner Mauro Valli is dedicated to playing  baroque music on original instruments.

Set to be one of the unmissable highlights of BVOF, early booking is highly recommended.

Giovanni Bellucci Concert: Myths and Legends - Orpheus - Monday 6th June

We are delighted to welcome the phenomenal talent of pianist Giovanni Bellucci performing Myths and Legends – OrpheusHis stratospheric career started when he discovered piano playing at fourteen years old, then shortly after gave his first concert with the “Totentanz” by Liszt. This was followed by encounters with many great musicians such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Alfred Brendel, Murray Perahia, Maurizio Pollini and the great Russian pianist Lazar Berman. Giovanni Bellucci is considered to be one of the most influential pianists of our time. 

BVOF Artistic Director Dieter Kaegi says, “We are honoured that Mr Bellucci will be  performing Myths and Legends – Orpheus at this year’s Blackwater Valley Opera Festival. It allows us to showcase one of the greatest piano playing talents today, in my adopted country of Ireland”.

Irish Baroque Orchestra With Nuria Rial and Juan Sancho - Handel Programme - Happy We! - Monday 6th June

The Irish Baroque Orchestra, conducted by their Artistic Director, Peter Whelan, will be joined by soprano, Nuria Rial and tenor, Juan Sancho. The acclaimed Irish Baroque Orchestra is Ireland’s flagship period music ensemble and delivers historically-informed performances to the highest standards.

Peter Whelan is among the most exciting and versatile exponents of historical performance of his generation, with a remarkable career as a conductor, keyboardist and solo bassoonist. He is Artistic Director of the Irish Baroque Orchestra and founding Artistic Director of Ensemble Marsyas.

Under the artistic direction of Peter Whelan at the harpsichord, international performers; Nuria and Juan will sing arias and duets in an exciting Handel programme entitled, “Happy We!”.  The performance will draw its inspiration from Handel’s great works of ‘Esther’, ‘Hercules’ and ‘Acis & Galatea’. An evening of vocal fireworks and orchestral vibrancy that only Handel could write for awaits in the intimate setting of Dromore Yard.
