Two Special Evening Concerts At Dromore Yard, AglishThursday 28 May
Maurice Steger “Opera for the Intermissions”
Sunday 31 May
Anthony Kearns – A tribute concert to Count John McCormack
Prices from €30
Tucked away on the banks of the Blackwater River lies Dromore Yard, a farmyard that was owned by the Barry family since the early 1500s. Today, Dromore Yard is a remarkable example of a traditional Irish farmyard in the heart of the Eastern Irish countryside. Dromore Yard welcomes the BVOF Concert Series.
Guests wandering through the old farmyard can imagine the sights and sounds of daily farm life of years gone by, now with a glass of cool wine in their hand and a frisson of excitement in the air as they anticipate an evening of fine music. The time-worn, stone sheds now shelter romantic tables for sit-down, candle-lit dinners, while the old cattle shed houses a vibrant bar. At the heart of the Dromore Yard lies the large tin Dutch barn, which has been re-imagined as a concert space. Twinkling candelabras hang from the rafters, illuminating the performers and audience below. Sliding doors open from the barn onto a striking view of the Blackwater river, which acts as a backdrop to the concert. Before the first notes sound, golden evening light floods the barn. As the performers carry guests away with them, the sun sets over the river. Soon, candlelight is the only light and time stands still.
In 2020, Dromore Yard will feature two spectacular concerts. The first takes place on Thursday 28 May, where virtuoso recorder player Maurice Steger with be accompanied by legendary baroque cellist Mauro Valli and Daniele Caminiti on classical guitar. This concert takes place thanks to the generous support of the Mullin and Fund families.
The second Dromore Yard concert takes place on Sunday 31 May, where renowned Irish tenor Anthony Kearns will perform a special tribute concert to Count John McCormack. This promises to be a Festival highlight and not to be missed. We thank Ivor Fitzpatrick & Company Solicitors for their kind support of this eagerly anticipated concert.
Before both concerts, a three-course sit-down dinner will be prepared by our acclaimed chef Eunice Power and served by candlelight in the traditional farm buildings. Supported by Local Enterprise Office Waterford, the Dromore Yard Menu is called ‘Food, the Waterford Way Menu’, celebrating the very best of local produce and ingredients from the Waterford Way Members. Read more about their Members here. On both nights we will also be offering a more informal option of a picnic box by Mezze of Waterford.
Maurice Steger & Friends Music for the Opera Intermissions Thursday May 28th - 8:15pm
Three exceptionally talented, world-class musicians – Maurice Steger, Daniele Caminiti, and Mauro Valli – will come together in concert for the very first time at Dromore Yard on Thursday 28 May.
Legendary Maurice Steger, a “recorder player in a million” (The Times) has performed in solo concerts and ensembles across the world to both popular and critical acclaim, causing audiences to see the recorder in an entirely new light. Celebrated by The Independent as “the world’s leading recorder virtuoso”, Steger is not only technically brilliant but is also a remarkable performer. His stage manner delights audiences with charisma and spontaneity that is no less brilliant than his technical skill and full instrumental sound.
Like Steger, multi-award-winning classical guitarist and lutenist Daniele Caminiti is dedicated to the study of Early music. Born in Sicily, Caminiti graduated in classical guitar at the ‘Conservatorio’ in Pescara, thereafter studying under Oscar Ghiglia at the Music Academy in Basel and Peter Croton at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. His graceful, incisive sound has delighted audiences across Europe, where he has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in high-profile ensembles and orchestras, often playing with renowned artists.
Finally, Mauro Valli will be reuniting with Steger at BVOF, the two musicians having made a number of brilliant recordings together before. Valli has spent the past thirty years dedicating himself to Baroque music played on original instruments, a vocation which has won him numerous international awards and has seen him performing in some of the greatest concert halls of the world. These performances have always met with the same great praise as his numerous recordings, the latest of which is published by Sony Records.
This evening concert is set to be one of the unmissable highlights of BVOF, and early booking is recommended. We are also offering formal dining and picnic dining options for this concert, which you can reserve and pay for at the time of ticket purchase.
BVOF would like to acknowledge the very generous support of the Mullin and Fund Families in staging this concert.

Anthony Kearns – A tribute concert to Count John McCormack - Sunday May 31st - 8:15pm
We are delighted to welcome “Ireland’s foremost tenor” Anthony Kearns to BVOF, in a tribute concert to Count John McCormack at Dromore Yard on Sunday 31 May at 20.15.
Kearns fills a unique place in the Irish music scene, having toured the globe with Double-Platinum ranked The Irish Tenors for over a decade in addition to developing a rich solo career. As a soloist, Kearns has performed for Barack Obama, opened California’s Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival for over 6000 people, appeared on international opera stages, and sung with hundreds of the world’s best symphony orchestras. Yet what makes Kearns stand out even more than his impressive track record is his skill as a performer. Kearns has truly universal appeal – time and time again, he enchants audiences with his magnetic charm, flawless voice and wide repertoire.
Accompanying Kearns on Sunday evening are pianist Niall Kinsella and Lynda O'Connor lead violinist of the BVOF Orchestra. Kinsella is known as one of Ireland’s most exciting young performers, who has been “shaking up the format of the song recital” with his Irish Songmakers’ Series (Irish Examiner). Kinsella has performed across Europe as a concert accompanist, as well as appearing in recitals with leading Irish and international singers in some of Europe’s finest concert halls.
We offer formal dining and picnic dining options for this concert, which you can reserve and pay for at the time of ticket purchase.
